The Kumari Project Safe House opened in late 2014! It is situated in the hills north of Kathmandu in the beautiful village of Budhanilkantha.
Pramila, her little sister, Pramisha, and Apsana were the first girls to join! Now we have twelve children - ten girls and two of their little brothers - ages 12-18!

A majority of the children at the Safe House have at least one parent in prison. They can either live in prison with their parent(s) or in an orphanage with substandard care and education, where they are extremely vulnerable to exploitation.
The Kumari Project Safe House not only provides stable housing, but also offers forward-thinking care, encompassing an integrated arts education and physical and emotional support services. Girls housed in the Safe House have the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing, affectionate and respectful living environment, cared for by people who are dedicated to their well being and success.
We call the Kumari Home a 'Safe House' because the terms 'children's home' and/or 'orphanage' have become synonymous with the abusive and substandard organizations where many orphaned and abandoned children are housed in Nepal. Read more about our Safe House by reading our booklet below.
